I am running a business over 3 years not maintaining proper books and accounting software. Please advice how to maintain proper book of accounts and accounting software?

Received $200 credit from Depot Wholesale Supply for merchandise returned.

How do I write this on my general ledger?

Sales totaled $20,000 ($5,000 for cash and $15,000 for credit). The cost of merchandise sold was $10,000. How would I record this in my general ledger and how would I balance out the credit and debit?

Peachtree By Sage Complete Accounting 2010

If I have my general journal, my sub-journals, and my general ledger, and as an example I take out a note. I posted the cash and notes payable to the general journal, then the cash receipts sub-journal. Assuming cash receipts are added to the G/L at the end of the month, do I post the notes payable credits from thr CR journal as I go along through the transaction list, or also only at the end of the month?

I am wondering what the most widely used business accounting software is? Or which programs would be the best to know?

I have an accounting project, where I have all of these invoices that I have to put into special journals, accounts recievable subsidiary ledgers, accounts payable subisidary ledgers, general ledgers, and general journals. BUT…I don’t know what information goes into what journal and my teacher isn’t very helpful! I need an example of what to put into each and how to record the postings. Thanks SO much
