If the cost of merchandise sold was less than the sales received, how do you record in a general ledger?
Sales totaled $20,000 ($5,000 for cash and $15,000 for credit). The cost of merchandise sold was $10,000. How would I record this in my general ledger and how would I balance out the credit and debit?

Do I post to the General Ledger as I go along or at the end of the month only?
If I have my general journal, my sub-journals, and my general ledger, and as an example I take out a note. I posted the cash and notes payable to the general journal, then the cash receipts sub-journal. Assuming cash receipts are added to the G/L at the end of the month, do I post the notes payable credits from thr CR journal as I go along through the transaction list, or also only at the end of the month?

I have an accounting project, where I have all of these invoices that I have to put into special journals, accounts recievable subsidiary ledgers, accounts payable subisidary ledgers, general ledgers, and general journals.
